Rabbi Fred Reeves recently served as the Rabbi at KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation in Chicago for ten years. Prior to KAM, he was at The Temple-Hebrew Benevolent Congregation in Atlanta. At both locations, Rabbi Reeves has demonstrated his energy and innovative thinking. Examples include creative services, conversational sermons, special Adult education programs, and Grandparents circles. Rabbi Reeves is committed to deepening community engagement, pursuing social justice, and creating services that are more participatory. Two bonuses are that Rabbi Reeves served on the faculty for the URJ camp Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute and that he is proficient in the guitar, ukulele, piano and violin and experienced as a song leader.
Rabbi Reeves believes that Jewish life should be open to all regardless of where on the Jewish path a person starts. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Rabbi Reeves has a degree in French literature from the College of William and Mary. He earned his M.A. in Hebrew Letters and was ordained at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife, Lauren, will be starting a new position at the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston. Rabbi Reeves has five children.
Music is an important part of our worship at Sinai Temple. Our guitarists who perform our Shabbat service are warm and encouraging of group singing. For the High Holidays, we have a cantorial soloist, who also partners with her daughter for some of the music, accompanied by a pianist. For Kol Nidre, we feature a well-known violinist.
Our professional musicians lead us through a varied repertoire, ranging from traditional to contemporary styles. Music brings us pleasure and helps minimize stress so we can enjoy “being in the moment!”
We are truly a most fortunate congregation!
Our amazing Administrative Staff is responsible for keeping our members up to date with scheduling appointments, administrative support, newsletters, assist those planning a lifecycle event, help with Zoom support (scheduling, Zoom links), donation questions, and is available to help answer your questions.
Our wonderful Maintenance Team is responsible for overseeing our grounds and maintaining our treasured Sinai Temple.
Our congregation is an inspiring and inclusive house of community, prayer, education, dedication, volunteerism, support, love and joy.
